About Us
DESI Power Foundation was established under the Indian Trusts Act 1882 by Dr. H. N. Sharan in 2006. Hari Sharan has a deep commitment to training. Through this trust he supports improved egalitarian social relationships in India. The training centres in Gayari, Araria and Baharwari ran for a decade. After training, the students were able to take up jobs in DESI Power Foundation projects and elsewhere. The training has contributed to improved farming practices, improved relationships between people, and the eradication of difference of class, religion and caste. The unity of all mankind and womankind, and the advancement of agriculture, forestry, and decentralised renewable energy, continue to be the focal areas of the trust. In this world dominated by political economy, the trust defends the values of humane socialism and the Indian Constitution.

Grants:
The main financial and moral support for the trust comes from Hari Sharan, the Founding Trustee. Since 2006 he has been the main funder of the trust. The second most important source of financial support for the trust comes from Corporate Social Responsibility grants from Fichtner Consulting Engineers (India) Private Ltd. Three other past donors are Solarkraftwerkgemeinschaft Seuzach, Switzerland, Solarspar, Aarau, Switzerland, and Hans “Jeannot” Sulzer and sons, Herliberg, Switzerland. These funds from these supporters have enabled the trust to give grants to other organisations, both trusts and not-for-profit-to-the-promoter companies, and to run projects ourselves.
We thank these past and present supporters for their faith in us from the bottom of our hearts. We promise to put as much determination in to the coming projects in 2025 to 2030 as you put into the projects in the past.

Jeevanshala school group
Jeevanshala school has been running in Araria for some years. Hari Sharan was please to meet with the founders of the school and share their hopes and aims for children in Araria. A few years ago he supported the school to install solar electric fans and lighting, thus reducing their electricity bills. Thereafter Jeevanshala managed to improve their school facilities substantially. We congratulate them on their beautiful new school. After discussions DESI Power Foundation was able to support Jeevanshala’s wonderful efforts by getting our own two teachers and 17 students to be mentored by Abhimanyu and join the Jeevanshala programme. Our teachers Lucy Roy and Naina R selected 17 children from a poor locality near Jeevanshala whom they now teach. The children are picked up and dropped to and from school every day and are given their breakfast and midday meal at the school. The programme is running smoothly and the two teachers are devoted to the success of their students. We are grateful to Abhimanyu for providing our teachers with training, mentoring and guidance to enable this programme to go from strength to strength.
Many people have profited from the energy, training, employment and farming programmes run by DESI Power Foundation in the last 20 years. Since we first started work we have seen nutritional, health and social improvements in the villages in the District of Araria and in a poor neighbourhood of Araria town; this is where we have focused our work and we would not have been able to dream of the progress in the District when we started. This is in large measure thanks to the Government. Our own contribution is nonetheless gratifying. Currently 10 people are in a position to contribute to working in, running and managing the organisation and 17 children are permanently supported to make the best of opportunities we can support them in. All of us learnt from the original pilot projects and we now enjoy keeping on learning and doing and moving forward.
