DESI Power Foundation

Kadamb Plantatation and Bamboo Bari

From 2015 to 2022 the trust gave several grants to Decentralised Energy Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd. to work on integrating their decentralised energy systems with farming. Two plantations were established, a Kadamb plantation and a Bamboo Plantation. The Kadamb plantation supplied the biomass gasifier operated by the company with cuttings from the Kadamb trees. The power plant provided power to an irrigation pump set. The bamboo plantation became a bane to the lives of the villagers because Anandi had selected a thorny type of bamboo.  These two projects were successfully completed by the grant recipient and handed over to the trust. In 2022 the organic farming group Madhumakkhi Farm took them over. In 2023 the Madhumakkhi Farm group  chopped down the thorny bamboo and dug it up and replaced the thorny variety with a thornless variety. The thorny bamboo was used for fencing. The Kadamb plantation is doing well and the plan is to fence it and improve  the soil below the trees so that a proper forest floor  may develop.
